1 2005 LACROSSE THIS IS RICHMOND LACROSSE In 2004, the Spiders earned their highest national ranking in nine years when they held the #18 spot in the IWLCA poll. Richmond was included in the poll for five weeks during the season. In head coach Sue Murphy s first two seasons at Richmond, the Spiders compiled consecutive winning seasons and advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championships. In her first year, Richmond recorded a program-best 12 wins. Richmond, focused on becoming a national powerhouse, continues to play a tremendous schedule. In 2005, the Spiders will face three teams that advanced to last year s NCAA Tournament, including Virginia, the defending national champion. For three consecutive seasons ( ), Polly Purcell led the team in scoring. She ended her career as the program s alltime assist leader with 74 and tied current assistant coach Carrie (Aitken) Bush for the top spot for career points with 196. Purcell was honored to the All-South second team and represented the Spiders on the U.S.A National Developmental Team, coached by Murphy. In 2002, senior Carrie Aitken left her mark on the Richmond record books as the program s all-time career goal leader with 137 and is currently third for career points with 159. Her 51 goals during her senior campaign rank first in the Richmond record book for goals in a single season. She returned to her alma mater in the summer of 2004 to serve as an assistant coach. A two-time All-American, Heather Gardner ( ) was one of Richmond s most prolific players. She shares the top spot for career points with 196 and ranks second in career assists with 62. Lynn Boliver ( ) became the first player in Spiders lacrosse history to score more than 100 points and 100 goals in a career. An All-American and a Division I All-Region selection, she earned conference first-team honors for three consecutive seasons. The Spiders have boasted five All-Americans and five All- Regional performers since becoming a Divison I sport at UR in Since joining the Atlantic 10 three years ago, the Spiders have earned seven spots on the yearly All- Conference teams and in 2002, Kristy Gallagher was named co-defensive Player of the Year. 2

As a freshman, our lacrosse slogan became a passion to play... and then some. And while each year that slogan has changed, the attitude behind it has never lessened.

6 As a freshman, our lacrosse slogan became a passion to play... and then some. And while each year that slogan has changed, the attitude behind it has never lessened. I will leave Richmond with an incredible passion for lacrosse itself but I will also leave with an intense passion for the accomplishments, the teamwork, the life lessons, the influential leaders and the friendships all of which will never truly be the same elsewhere. Most of all, I will leave Richmond with a passion for this team that only makes me wish I were a freshman and could be apart of it all over again. Kristy Fairhurst I cannot even grasp that this is my fourth and final year playing collegiate lacrosse. By playing lacrosse here at Richmond, I have realized that who you are as a person matters more than who you are on the field. I have learned that whatever you do, you must do it with your whole heart, both on and off the field. Otherwise, it is not worth it. There is an internal drive in me that will not let this team end the season without winning the Atlantic 10 Championship and going onto the NCAA Tournament. Kristen Habicht I first became a part of the Richmond lacrosse team and then Richmond lacrosse became a part of me. I have been so lucky to have shared four amazing years here. Every time that I think about this being my final season, I tear up knowing that the memories that I am making are some of my last. However, I know that we are going to take Richmond lacrosse to the next level and I could not ask for a better group of girls to share that amazing experience with. Jodi Brown
