2 KINGS PARK ATHLETICS The Kings Park Central School District interscholastic athletic program looks to foster the quest for excellence by creating an educational and competitive experience within an atmosphere of sportsmanship. Development of individual and team potential by promoting high standards of competence, character, civility, and citizenship is a top priority.

5 Student-Athlete Requirements Valid Physical: Good for 1 Calendar Year Free HS Sports Physicals: May 23 rd - 2:30 pm HS May 24 th - 2:30 pm HS August 2 nd - 11 am at HS Nurse s Office Only the KPCSD or NYSED Physical Form will be accepted Signed Form: Code of Conduct; Athletic Permission; Concussion Management (Parent/Guardian acknowledgement and signature) Academically Eligible

6 Academic Eligibility Academic Status evaluated using marking period grades. Failing 2 or more classes results in academic probation for the next 5 weeks. During the period of academic probation, the student will be permitted to continue athletic participation if the student demonstrates both of the following actions: The student, in conjunction with the failed subject teacher, develops an action plan for academic improvement. The student must demonstrate that he/she is no longer failing in more than one course by the time interim reports are submitted. Any student who fails to demonstrate they have successfully completed both of the actions above shall be declared ineligible for the duration of the marking period.

7 Junior Varsity Preparation for varsity Philosophy At times there is more opportunity for playing time Developmental in nature Balance between continued team and player development and striving for victory Some decisions made by needs of Varsity team

8 Philosophy Varsity Highest level of competition One of many goals is to compete/win Playing time determined by ability/practice Roster sizes are limited to create effective and meaningful practice and to play the contests

9 Try-out or No-cut Selection of Teams Depends on number of athletes interested Depends on nature and level of the sport Will look to keep maximum An athlete s first commitment must be to the school program. Coaches are not expected to excuse athletes from school practices and/or contests due to conflicts with outside community club or travel teams

10 Concussion Management Concussion Management is for students short-term and longterm safety ImPact Testing *Baseline results are valid for two (2) years *Test data is stored at St. Charles Hospital *Baseline tests will be given: Fall- During August practices Winter/Spring: 1-2 weeks before season start date * Students must have valid baseline before first scrimmage/game Concussion Diagnosis: *Student goes to an ImPact certified doctor *Take ImPact computer test; Compare results to Baseline *Cleared by Chief Medical Officer to be symptom free *Begin Return to Play Protocol w/ Athletic Trainer
