1 April, 2015 CHSD117 Sequoit Signal Greetings Sequoits, I want to express my most sincere gratitude to the entire Antioch community that provided assistance and support to our Sequoit family in need, this past month. I have been in regular contact with mom and get to witness her appreciation first hand every time that we interact. I wish that everybody involved would be able to experience the positive results from your outpouring of support. Words cannot express the impact that each of you has made on this family. Acts of kindness such as this make the world a better place. With that said, mom gratefully informed me that the family s basic needs have been met and asked that clothing donations be put on hold for the time being. I thank you once again for your support on their behalf and will keep you posted with any developments. This reinforces in my mind how great it is to be a Sequoit! 2 What Sequoits Are Doing! English March 30-April 2 was the irst annual Writer's Week. Most English classes spent the 4- day week listening to and interacting with professional writers from all walks of life: comedy, sports, television, horror, music, comics, poetry, etc. Students had the opportunity to work with some of the writers if they signed up for workshops during the lunch hours. This week provided students with the chance to explore the many ields of writing. Final I-Search projects for all seniors will be coming due in April, with presentations to follow through the end of the year. Please ask your student(s) how they are progressing and help them get through the last big push. The I-Search is a requirement for passing senior English. We are in the inal stages of assembling our summer reading books and assignments. After our one time only One Book One School project last summer, we evaluated our program. We looked at other schools in the Northern Illinois counties and what they offered for summer and had subsequent conversations about our philosophy, our students, and the changes in student lives. We think you and your student will be excited about our new program. We will reveal the details in May. Mathematics The Math Department is proud to announce that they have recently been accepted into Mu Alpha Theta. This is a Math Honors Society which will recognize students who have earned a 4.0 GPA or higher in their math classes. As this is the irst year, we look forward to honoring over 100 students at the end of this year. Steps to register for NSO Apply to CLC via Send your transcript to CLC via transcript release on Naviance Turn in completed and signed permission slip to Student Services If needed, take CLC placement test for Math and/or English ( a testing date has been set up at ACHS on March 11). 3 Tidbits Of Information The Hope on the Move cancer walk that has been created and planned by Monica Wilhelm, Kaylie Card, and Steffanie Richardson for their Genius Hour project in Mrs. Krickl's Global Studies class, has now raised over $1000 and sold more than 100 t-shirts! These students have worked incredibly hard to put this event together, and while shirts are no longer available, they are now selling wristbands and tickets to get into the event. The walk will be on Sunday, April 26th from 1-4pm at Osmond Park. All support is welcome! 4 AP TESTING INFORMATION Dear Parent and Student: This year s Advanced Placement Exams are drawing near. Exams will begin on Monday, May 4th, and will conclude on Friday, May 15th. This memo is to remind you and your student of the mandatory pre-admission meetings on Tuesday, April 14 th. This year there will be two sessions of the pre-admission meeting. Freshman, sophomore and junior students registered for an AP exam will meet in the school café during 2nd period. Senior students registered for an AP exam will meet in the school café during 3rd period on April 14 th. Students should report directly to the cafeteria at the beginning of either 2nd or 3 rd hour and have several #2 lead pencils with them. We will review times for exams, locations of exams, and lunch schedules, as well as complete identifying information on their initial answer sheet. I have included a copy of the test schedule with this letter. It is imperative that students know the time and location of their exams. Please urge your students to be punctual. All morning exams will start promptly at 7:30 a.m. (even on late start days) and the afternoon exams will start promptly at 11:30 a.m. (even on late start days). Latecomers will not be allowed into the testing room. If you have any questions, you can reach myself at or Mr. Langenkamp at or have your student stop by the Guidance Office to see either one of us.
