6 Cancellations and Changes We try to make the call by 2:00pm. We will parents and notify students as a school announcement. Please don t us or call us before 2:00pm. We will communicate with you. Make-up games will be up to both schools. We may not make up every game.

7 So you want to play a sport? 1. In order to register for a sport, that sport s registration must be opened by the athletics office. Several weeks before tryouts, we will open registration and communicate through a RenWeb that registration is open. 2. Go to home website and find the Athletics dropdown tab. Open 8to18 Registration. If you haven t participated in a sport here, you will need to create an account. If you have done a sport, log in to your account to register your student. 3. Physicals are required in order to register and must be submitted in order to tryout. 4. Players who do not register will not be allowed to tryout for the sport until they are. This is for your student s safety and ours.

8 Academic Requirements Students First A student must be passing all of their classes. If they are not, we will be notified and they have a week from that notification to be passing. If after the week of probation they are not passing, they will be in-eligible for a week s time. If a student fails a quarter class, they will sit 2 contests, some exceptions apply (Track, Cross).

11 Schedules 1.Game Schedules: Most difficult part of switching to a new state! 70-80% of schedules have to be replaced. 2.AD s set schedules for games. These are indicated on our website. 3.Practice schedules are set by the coaches communication means may vary.

12 Officials Officials and umpires are assigned by the NAOA. We have little influence over who officiates our contests. Don t get ejected! We will uphold the IHSAA parent suspension if issued.

14 Code Issues A. Student athletes may not use or have in their possession any tobacco product, including electronic cigarettes. Penalty: Immediate suspension from athletic participation for the remainder of the season. Athletic Handbook B. Student athletes may not use or possess alcohol. In addition, such students may not be present at any gathering of peers where alcohol or illegal drugs are used. To avoid penalty for being present at such a gathering, a student must leave immediately. Penalty: Immediate suspension from athletic participation for the remainder of the season. C. Student athletes may not use or possess any illegal drugs (marijuana, ecstasy, prescription drugs not prescribed for the athlete, steroids, cocaine, etc.) or drug paraphernalia (pipes, rolling papers, clips, etc.). Student athletes may not be present where illegal drugs are used or experienced. Penalty: Immediate suspension from athletic participation for the remainder of the school year. D. If a student athlete violates any of the above rules regarding tobacco, alcohol, or illegal drugs a second time within the same academic year, that student may not participate in any organized athletic activity at Illiana for the remainder of the school year. E. The administration may impose penalties greater than those prescribed above for offenses.

15 Multiple School Activities When there are 2 school activities at the same time, parents get to choose with no penalty. We encourage participation in school activities. We need to be flexible with this. Communication

16 Communication We need to continue to communicate better. You will receive regular communication from the AD s. We communicate through . If you have not received an via 8to18, please let us know ASAP We are encouraging coaches to communicate more with you regarding expectations, roles, and evaluations of your athletes.

17 Communicate back in a healthy way... Our students need to grow this way, too. 24-hour rule Please follow the proper procedure: Coach, AD James 1:19 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

18 New!!! 1. We re starting a new leadership program- GRIT Leadership. Piloting in our basketball programs this year and expanding to all sports this spring. 2. Speed and Strength Programs- Three 8-week sessions will be held this year led by a certified trainer to focus on developing the body of the athlete to grow strong, explosive movements and promote health and endurance. Each session precedes each sports season.

19 Fundraisers The annual golf outing will be held on Monday, September Briar Ridge CC. Registration through Athletics/Sports Boosters. 4th Illiana Auction will be held Saturday, November Illiana. Pancake Pacer 5K- April 27 Please mark these on your calendars and see how you can be involved!!!

22 Facilities 1. The ARC is being completed. Audio needs to be finished. 2. The Tunnel is still under CORE s oversight. It is our main athletics storage. This is why so much is in the main gym. 3. Bleachers in the main gym will be installed next week and should be completed September 14. New floors chairs have arrived and new scorer s table is being created. Video panels look awesome! 4. Outdoor facilities: Track and tennis courts are being surfaced and should be completed by the end of the fall. Baseball and softball fields will be ready in the spring for competition. Lights are on their way.

23 Conference Affiliation We will not have conference affiliation this year. We are pursuing every possibility. 1. Must be the right fit. There are several that might be a good fit. 2. Familiarity must be established. Good relationships built. 3. Conference affiliation helps establish a schedule, creates rivalry, allows championship opportunities. 4. Conference affiliation does NOT officially impact our postseason status or status with the IHSAA, nor does it limit who we can play. In some cases, being independant can help programs to create schedules which fit their teams.

24 State Affiliation We ve been approved for initial membership into the IHSAA. Initial membership means all benefits of state membership except postseason play. After 4 years, you may apply for full membership. We will appeal this status to pursue full membership when the timing is more favorable. Please do not contact the state to plead our case.
