3 Section 1 Identify all distance education courses that will be offered as part of the distance education program. encompass Academy will utilize the Edmentum coursework for two key purposes: 1. For students who are credit deficient, and need to reclaim credit towards graduation. 2. For students who are interested in taking alternative coursework that encompass cannot provide due to the size of the program. All programs are offered on site with the support of a highly qualified instructor in the areas outlined in NRS The suite of Edmentum coursework is available to students, and students are placed based upon their need in an individual course. The following pages include the list of available courses for students.

10 Section 2 Describe the process that will be used to enroll students in the distance education program. encompass students are enrolled in the charter school, which is not an online program. The enrollment process includes an initial interview, which incorporates a review of records and the development of an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). The ILP evaluates the student s credit history, and provides the opportunity of the team members (parent/guardian, administrator, counselor, and student) to discuss the need for credit recovery. Based upon this review, students are flagged for requiring credit recovery support. All students who attend encompass receive access to Edmentum to complete Accuccess assessments, and to work on Test Packs. Few students will be enrolled in an online credit recovery class. An additional small percentage of students will take CTE coursework, or coursework not able to be provided by encompass due to the small size of the school. Once the student is enrolled at encompass, they complete an assessment through the Accuccess program, which alerts staff and faculty as to the academic skill level of the student. This additional data then provides information as to the kind of credit recovery class, or in some cases advanced or specialized coursework, with which the student would be successful. Students requiring and approved for credit recovery or specialized coursework as outlined in their ILP with the support of the team, are placed into a class. Students are given a time in their school week to work on the class, and this time is listed as a noncredit bearing Study Hall. Students do not receive credit until they have completed the online course. There are no students who are enrolled full time in the online format. Students will be enrolled in no more than two classes at one time.

11 Online Coursework Determination Enrolled Student Monitoring Individual Learning Plan (ILP) Developed Student enrolled in coursework. Student identi<ied: Credit Recovery or Specialized Coursework Student assigned to an on- ground study hall for attendance monitoring and instructor support. Accuccess Assessment Completed for Mathematics, Reading, and Language Arts 1 Instructor meets individually on a bi- weekly basis to go over progress. Team (Student, Parent, Administration, and Teacher) meets to determine coursework Appropriate progress is determined/modi<ied by instructor and student, (goal of 5-6% per week of semester) Student enrolled in no more than 2 classes Quarterly progress reports mailed to parents with both percentage of course completion and grade. Student may be removed from coursework for being more than 25% behind in an online course. 2 1 Upon completion of course, the teacher of record will submit the completed course to the school counselor for inclusion into the student transcript Accuccess assessment results must indicate student has a score above a minimum of 600 to take an online course. 2 A student who has been removed from an online course will not be eligible to take an online course at encompass for at least one semester. Parents will be contacted in event of removal, and student will be place in an on ground class. 3 The school counselor will add completed coursework to transcripts one time per semester, no later than 15 days after the start of a new semester.

12 Section 3 Provide an explanation of how the school district or charter school will document pupil s attendance and participation in courses offered through the distance education program. Teachers who provide oversight for the study hall classes meet with the students on their roster a minimum of once per week. Rosters developed through the school s record keeping database, Infinite Campus (IC). Attendance will be taken through IC for every day that the study hall class is in session. Teachers of record will monitor progress within the program a minimum of once per week (in most cases, student s will have the same teacher of record and study hall teacher.) During the class meetings, the teacher reviews with each student their progress in their individual online classes. In addition to monitoring attendance through IC, the Edmentum platform provides data indicating the dates and times when students are logged in to their coursework. It also provides data for the times that teachers of record are monitored. Rosters will also be developed within Edmentum for teachers of record to easily see student progress. Section 4 Describe the plan that will be followed for assessing the achievement of students enrolled in the distance education program. encompass teaching staff provide oversight in their areas of expertise to monitor student progress, assessment, and completion of online courses. The Edmentum coursework is aligned with Common Core and meets State achievement and proficiency examinations required of all students. Course assessments are taken by students during the study hall period when a licensed teacher is available to proctor the examinations. Student achievement will be evaluated through progress in the course, in addition to progress in the general achievement assessments prescribed by the Washoe County School District and the state. Following a semester, staff and faculty will review the success of the program in terms of how many students took coursework, and how many completed coursework with passing marks. Information will guide decision making about the students who should be allowed to participate in online programming. Section 5 Describe how the school district or charter school will document successful course completion and the awarding of course credit to students. encompass provides progress documentation during quarterly grade reporting. Licensed teachers providing oversight for courses in their areas of expertise report to the school counselor when a course has been completed by a student. The semester grade is entered into the student s transcript in Infinite Campus and a copy of the final student progress report is filed in the student s cumulative folder for documentation purposes.

13 Section 6 Describe how the school district or charter school will monitor the progress of students enrolled in the program. encompass Study Hall teachers monitor student progress during class meetings and the licensed teacher providing oversight in their areas of expertise provide additional monitoring and support to students enrolled in the online courses. Students who are not making expected progress meet with the Dean of Academics to ascertain the reasons for any lack of progress and possible areas of support are determined to provide students with additional resources to aide in course completion. encompass provides students with teacher support, peer tutoring, and after school tutoring sessions for students to progress in the online coursework. Students who do not complete a semester course within the semester are dis-enrolled in the class and discussions are conducted to determine best next steps for the student to complete the required coursework for a standard high school diploma. Parents are notified of student progress a minimum of once per quarter, and are provided with the grade for the course, the progress for the course, and the requirements for the course. Students who require technical assistance or support are able to bring their questions and concerns to encompass staff for resolution.
