The Class of 2018 was significantly highlighted for their accomplishments throughout their time in the district including their accumulation of 201 college credits that saved their families more than $100,000. The implementation of the Leader in Me program continued last school year with an increased focus on showcasing the outstanding work of our student leaders. Families and the community will continue to be invited to the Elementary School for a myriad of activities, and I hope you will accept the invitation to see how Bucyrus future leaders are being shaped and molded today at Bucyrus Elementary School. We will be increasing our communication efforts to ensure families, staff, alumni and community members are even better informed about the many great things happening in the Bucyrus City School District. We have launched a new website featuring more video content and an increased focus on the programs and people that make Bucyrus amazing! We will continue producing our quarterly newsletters, The Redmen Way, and will launch several new video series. Be sure to watch our social media and website for more information as these initiatives launch. Athletics Reserved Football Seats The coaches, players, and community are anxiously awaiting the beginning of the Bucyrus Redmen football season when it opens at home at 7:00 p.m. against Cardington Friday, August 31. Reserved football seating will be on sale in the athletic office beginning August 1, Reserved seats are $7.00 per seat and only $35 for the entire season. Please contact the athletic office at if you have any questions regarding ticket information. Season Passes & Ticket Pricing The Bucyrus Athletic Department will sell season passes for the upcoming athletic year in the Athletic Office beginning August 1, Office hours are Monday- Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The prices are as follows: Family Pass ($375.00); Parent Pass ($250.00); Individual Pass ($150.00); Student Pass ($100.00). These passes will get spectators in to any Bucyrus home sporting event. Please call the Bucyrus Athletic Office at if you have any questions or need additional information about athletic passes. Ticket Prices for varsity events, including track, during the school year are as follows: Adults - $6.00; Students - $5.00. Junior Varsity Football, Freshman and Middle School events, including track, are as follows: Adults - $4.00; Students - $3.00.

3 Transportation Tentative bus schedules for the school year can be downloaded by visiting the home page of our website, Please consult the schedule for the nearest bus stop for your child/ children to use. If you rode the bus last year, you will be receiving updated stop information in the mail. If you don t receive a notification of your bus stop, please come to the Elementary or High School office to fill out a registration form. Please have your child/children at the stop 5 minutes early and in their area of safety. Pursuit Success The Relentless Of Food Service The Bucyrus City School District is excited to welcome Mrs. Charma Schifer as the new Food Services Manager. Mrs. Schifer is a Bucyrus alumna and has extensive experience in the food service industry. We are proud to offer free breakfast to all students. Elementary students receive breakfast in the classroom from 8:10 AM to 8:40 AM, while the secondary school breakfast is available in the cafeteria from 7:10 AM to 7:50 AM. Students must take 3 out 4 items and one item must be a ½ cup of fruit or fruit juice to qualify as a FREE breakfast. Breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, as well as nutritional information documents, are available at bucyrusschools.org. Parents can make payments on student food service accounts, as well as view and track student dining behaviors, through PayForIt.net (PFI). Click on the PayForIt.net picture on the food service page at www. bucyrusschools.org to set up access. A guide to establish parent access can be found on the PayForIt.net website under the How Do I tab. Additional information is available for families on the food services page at bucyrusschools.org. 4 Bucyrus Elementary School Our student leaders are excited to welcome you to Bucyrus Elementary School. We look forward to seeing you at our many activities throughout the school year designed to showcase our school, students and staff. We are pleased to welcome new educational leaders to our school, including: Mr. Chris Stake (Daytime Custodian/ Bus Driver); Mrs. Dorothy Sharrock (Data Entry Secretary); Mr. Matt Feck (Art Teacher); and Miss Grace Keller (Fourth Grade Teacher). We look forward to serving with them along your students educational journey. Commitment to the safety of students and staff remains our highest priority. Supervision for your children is provided between 8:05 am and 3:35 pm on school days. Supervision remains the responsibility of the parents outside of these times. Entrance time for morning and all-day preschool is 7:50, while kindergarten through fifth grade is 8:05. All students must be in their rooms prior to the tardy bell at 8:20. Dismissal for morning and all-day preschool is 3:05, with kindergarten and first grade at 3:15, and second through fifth grade at 3:20. Federal Programs Federal Program Funding ensures that all children have a fair, equal and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and, at a minimum, reach proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and assessments. The Bucyrus City School District receives a wide range of federal grants, including: Title I, Title II A, IDEA B, TItle IV and 21st Century Community Learning Centers. Family engagement in school is an essential part of federal programming and a characteristic of high performing schools. The federal programs allow for planning in a way that is responsive to stakeholders perceptions about local beliefs, needs, and assets. The Bucyrus City School District places value and importance on parents as active participants in the process of developing and supporting district goals and building-level strategies. District Testing The Bucyrus City School District will administer the following assessments during the school year: Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA) Kindergarten students; Diagnostic Reading Assessment (DRA) K-3 grade students; Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA) K-12 limited English proficient students; NWEA MAP Growth Assessments - Grades K-10 (Reading, Math, Science); Ohio State Tests Grades 3-12 (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies); Early Learning Assessment Preschool; Alternate Assessment for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities (AASCD) Grades The testing schedule for the school year will be as follows: Ohio State Tests - Fall Grade 3 ELA (October 22-Nov. 2, 2018); Fall End of Course Exams (Dec. 3-Jan. 11, 2019); Spring ELA (March 25-April 26, 2019); Math, Science, Social Studies (April 1-May 10, 2019); AASCD (Feb. 18-April 12, 2019); OELPA (Feb. 4-March 29, 2019); NWEA - Fall (Sept. 4 - October 31, 2018), Winter (Dec. 3 - Feb. 14, 2019), Spring (April 1 - May 24, 2019) Visit the district website at bucyrusschools.org or contact Matthew Henderson at or mhenderson@bucyrusschools.org for more information about district testing.

5 Bucyrus Secondary School The Bucyrus Secondary school teachers and staff are excited to welcome our students and families back for another amazing school year. New staff members joining the BSS staff include: Mr. Ben Britton (High School Science) and Mrs. Kelly Conn (Secondary Guidance Counselor). Mr. Marty Schuster will now serve as the Secondary School Dean of Students and be located in the Middle School office. The Secondary School will continue our efforts in increasing critical thinking in the classroom this school year through our Depth of Knowledge (DOK) integration and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) instructional framework. Student leadership and service learning will be two major focal points for our students during the school year. Middle School students will have access to new courses and experiences in our marketing/business, engineering, and art classes along with an increased connection between the Elementary School s Leader in Me program and the Secondary School s positive behavior program, The Redmen Way. Treasurer The Bucyrus City School District closed Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 on June 30, and final numbers show that the general fund balance increased by $1,063, This is our fourth consecutive year of ending in the black, and these results are directly attributable to careful monitoring of expenses and revenues; something our community can be proud of. Though we face many financial headwinds as a public school district, we will continue to diligently manage district resources to educate students for the long run. Fiscal Year 2018 was the first year of Governor Kasich s biennium budget, and we anticipate flat revenues over the next year from the State of Ohio. Therefore, careful management of expenses to revenues will be necessary. We have been diligent in past years to manage to a point we can continue to provide a quality education without the need to make programmatic changes based on what is coming out of Columbus. We will continue to address capital improvements and make sure that we continue to invest in technology for our students in Fiscal Year We have made significant investments in our buildings this past year; improvements to position them for the long run.
