Understand the following tools as they relate to your senior year course selection and graduation: Transcripts and credit checks Graduation requirements and course options Special Scholarship requirements 2. Develop awareness regarding post high planning tools and resources: ACT and SAT websites NCAA and NAIA Eligibility College planning SDMyLife/Xello College & Career Readiness

3 Registration Materials You should have the following materials: Your transcript and credit check Your registration letter (white) A registration handout with elective courses (blue) Single/Double course listing sheet The Course Listing Book (descriptions of every course) is online at Click on: Students, then HS Course Listing, AP Courses, Dual Enrollment, Dual Credit, then High School Course Listing

4 SD Opportunity Scholarship $6, GPA, unweighted C or higher on high school course requirements 4 Math 4 Science (3 lab Science) 2 Foreign Language OR Career Technical Education (can be a combination) ACT of at least 24 OR SAT score of 1090 or higher. ACT of 28 with sub scores met = automatic scholarship Entering a South Dakota college in the fall after graduation. SD resident at the time of graduation Automatic scholarship IF you apply

5 Dakota Corps Scholarship SD HS graduate with a 2.8 or higher GPA Minimum ACT of 27 Attend a SD institution Selective limited number of scholarships. Incoming freshman in critical need occupation critical need areas: Teaching (HS Math, HS Science, K-12 Special Education, HS CTE, K-12 Foreign Language), Accountant/Auditor, Engineering (all fields except mining), Information Technology, Registered Nurse. Work in SD for 5 years after college graduation.

6 Official Transcripts YOU are responsible for choosing courses that meet graduation requirements. Transcript includes courses taken, grades and credits earned, GPA, and class rank. MAKE SURE YOUR TRANSCRIPT IS CORRECT. Colleges, scholarships, the military, or a job will all likely require an official high school transcript. Do your best this year. Many admission/award decisions are made based on your transcript through your junior year.

7 Credit Checks Required courses are on the left; electives on the right. To graduate, everyone needs 17.5 credits of required courses and 4.5 credits of elective courses (22 total, minimum). Remember if you plan to apply for scholarships and/or attend college next year, your course selection is very important. See your counselor if you have questions about course selection.

8 Important Notes Grade Replacement - If you retook a class for a higher grade, you can request that the lower grade come out of your GPA. Forms are in Stevens Student Services. Some restrictions apply; see your counselor with questions. Any Combination of the Following: (Bottom left side of your credit check) You must take 1 credit of any combination of World Language(s) or Career & Technical Ed (CTE) courses. Math & Science We recommend you take additional credits of math and science. Social Studies: If you have not taken Civics you need to take an additional half credit of Social Studies, i.e. US History, Psychology, WDT Introduction to Sociology, Native American Heritage, AP US Government.

9 Course Selection Your credit check will help you determine which classes you must take to graduate in Class drops are NOT allowed, so choose courses carefully. Some colleges have different requirements than we require for graduation- check college website. Required senior courses include the following: 1 credit of Language Arts (3 options).5 credit of Composition &.5 credit of Literature OR 1 credit English 12 OR 1 credit AP English 12.5 credit of US Government OR 1 credit of AP US Government (.5 of which will be an elective)

10 Additional Course Selection Information If you have taken a math class below Algebra 1 or Integrated Math 1, you will need to sign a math waiver before you can graduate. See your counselor for the waiver. If your 3 science credits do not include chemistry or physics, you must sign a science waiver before you can graduate. See your counselor to approve your 3 rd science credit and give you the waiver. If you are currently failing (cumulatively) a class you need to graduate, we recommend you sign up for it next year. If you pass it, it can be dropped. To be eligible for all school activities, including fine arts, you must pass 4 courses and be enrolled in 4 courses.

11 Course Selection For information about dual enrollment opportunities, go to: See your school counselor with questions The High School Course Listing book Schedule yourself for all required classes at SHS and once you are accepted for dual enrollment we can make schedule adjustments. If you are interested in attending RC High School next year, you must still choose classes for Stevens next year. Apply for RCHS admission and they will let you know later this spring if you ve been accepted.

12 Online Registration Instructions Instructions for registration are on your letter. Use your school username and password to login. Please keep track of this letter as it provides a link to your personal information in Skyward Family Access. If you misplace your letter or did not receive one, contact Marcia Geyer (Registrar) in Student Services. Schedule an appointment with your counselor if you want help and bring all these registration materials with you.

14 College Admission Exams: ACT or SAT Counselors strongly recommend you take the ACT or SAT for the first time this Spring. If you are not satisfied with your score, additional Fall test dates are available. Remember, some admission and scholarship deadlines are as early as October 1, 2019.

18 Other Items Test Outs This summer will be your last opportunity to test out of a high school class. You cannot test out of any class in which you have had seat time. For information, go to Students, Course Equivalency Exam (Test-Out) Program, or see your counselor. College Visits This spring, summer and fall are great times for college visits!
