1 NSCAA COACHING ACADEMY Course Information Sheet Elmhurst College July 11-17, 2016 Elmhurst, IL National and Advanced National Diplomas 1. Check-In and Departure: All course participants, including commuters, should arrive on Monday, July 11 th, in time to check-in between 2:00 and 5:00 pm. Check-in will be in the lobby of Cuerton Hall. Candidates should plan departure no earlier than 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 17 th. 2. Travel: Transportation to and from Elmhurst College is the responsibility of each candidate. The area is served by the Chicago O Hare International Airport - located approximately six miles from the Elmhurst College campus. Course candidates should plan arrival for Monday, July 11 th, in time to check-in between 2:00 5:00 pm and should plan departure no earlier than 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 17 th. 3. Local Transportation: Candidates are responsible for their own transportation from the airport to the campus and for return transportation to the airport upon departure. A regular Metra commuter train originates in downtown Chicago, at the Chicago and Northwestern Station, and stops two blocks from campus. Taxicabs are also available and the airport is serviced by most rental car agencies for anyone interested in leasing a vehicle for the week. 4. Fees: Course fees for the residential academies are $1,300 for NSCAA members and $1,395 for non-members. The non-member fee includes an NSCAA membership. You must be a member prior to registering for the course or you will be billed as a nonmember. Fees include six (6) nights lodging (double occupancy), meals, course materials and instruction. Commuter fees are $1,100 for members and $1,195 for non-members. If you register online, your registration is complete once you receive notice via . For those wishing to make a partial payment, please use the paper form (pgs. 5-6) and submit with a non-refundable, nontransferable deposit of $425. You must be paid in full no later than Friday, June 11, All checks should be made payable to NSCAA Coaching Academy. For credit card payments, please call the National Office at All course fees increase $200 after June 11, Lodging: Academy lodging will be in Cuerton Hall located on the Elmhurst College campus. Rooms will be reserved for all candidates, prior to the course, by the NSCAA based on double occupancy. Requests for roommates will be honored, if possible, but must be requested no later than June 11, Candidates requesting single occupancy will be charged an additional $300 by the NSCAA and must request the single room no later than June 11, To make a roommate request or a single room request please Allison Pronske apronske@nscaa.com with your request. Candidates are responsible for all other incidental expenses (key deposit, parking, phone, fans, etc.). The mailing address for Elmhurst College is Elmhurst College, 190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst, IL In case of emergency, calls can be placed to the Cuerton Hall front desk at The NSCAA Academy fee covers the cost of six nights lodging (July 11-17). Candidates arriving prior to July 11 th and departing after July 17 th are responsible for the cost of additional nights lodging and should make their own arrangements. Cuerton Hall is a fully air-conditioned hall. The room package includes pillows, linens, one blanket and towel service. You should bring soap, shampoo, extra towels, and other personal items. 6. Meals: Candidates are provided 17 meals as a part of the registration fee, including six (6) breakfasts, five (5) lunches and six (6) dinners. All meals will be served in the Frisk Center as part of the dorm package. Meal service begins with dinner on Monday, July 11 th and ends with breakfast on Sunday, July 17 th. Food-service hours for the academy will be announced at the first academy meeting on Monday evening (July 11 th ). Cost of any additional meals, en route to and from Elmhurst College, is the responsibility of each candidate. 7. First Meeting: The first meeting for all candidates will be at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 11 th on the Elmhurst College campus and attendance is mandatory. The location of this meeting will be indicated at registration. General course orientation and procedures will be covered and all candidates will be provided with the schedule of the week's activities (if any changes have been made). 8. What to Bring: The July weather in Chicago is usually warm to hot. We recommend being prepared for rain and strongly suggest sunscreen and caps. Among other personal items, you should bring a polo/golf shirt, shin guards, a notebook with paper, pens and
2 pencils, practice gear, training suit, rain suit, soccer shoes and flats. All candidates will receive a ball, ball pump, water bottle and 3 scrimmage vests on-site. 9. Course Preparation: Currently there are no pre-course assignments for the National, Advanced National or Premier Diploma courses. For those candidates wishing to prepare for the course prior to arrival, we would suggest the Attacking and Defending Principles of Play elearning content. This elearning content is available through the NSCAA website and the first session for each topic is free. To access the Attacking Principles of Play sessions, please use the following link: The Defending Principles of Play is available using the following link: Physical Preparation: The NSCAA Coaching Academy is a highly intensive week of instruction dedicated to fulfilling the NSCAA mission of education. Candidates should be in good shape and ready for an enjoyable week of enhancing their soccer knowledge. The NSCAA Academy does not discriminate based on any physical limitations to perform. Candidates that have any disabilities or health concerns, which might limit their participation in academy activities, should notify a staff member early in the week. You will find the academy staff very dedicated and ready to help you. 11. Safety: The NSCAA reminds coaches that they must have their own insurance coverage. NSCAA will not be responsible for medical payment for injuries which occur as a result of participation in the course. The NSCAA also reminds coaches to wear shin guards for practical sessions. Coaches participating in practical sessions without wearing shin guards do so at their own risk. 12. Curriculum: All candidates will be given a course curriculum when you check-in on-site however all curricula is available online using the following link: Please make sure you check-in between 2:00 5:00 pm on Monday, July 11 th to make sure you get a book and any other course materials. 13. Grading and Diplomas: Testing for the National and Advanced National courses is outlined in the course manuals and will be discussed at the first session. Final grading for all courses is based on testing with oral, written and on-field evaluations. Course results and diplomas will be forwarded within six weeks after completion of the course. Candidates are advised that attendance at all sessions is mandatory to receive a passing grade. Coaches who miss any of the sessions will be awarded a certificate of attendance. 14. College Credit and CEU s: An opportunity to receive three semester hours of college credit through the University of Colorado Colorado Springs is available by completing the National and Advanced National Diploma courses. Candidates paying non-member tuition will receive a membership at the time of registration. Registration is complete once you have received an confirmation letter from the NSCAA National Office. Candidates should not make travel arrangements for this course until they receive notice that enough candidates are enrolled in the course for it to go ahead. That notice will be sent no less than 14 days prior to the start of the course. Candidates requiring air travel are advised that the NSCAA is not responsible for refunding any expenses incurred by candidates for this course in the event of a cancellation. 30 days prior to the start of the course prices increase $200. Refunds for all National, Advanced National, Premier and Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma courses may be granted for a candidate who withdraws from a course and notifies the NSCAA National Office no less than seven (7) days prior to the start of the course. A deposit of 20% of the total registration fee is non-refundable; therefore a candidate is eligible for a maximum refund of 80% of the total course fees. Requests for refunds must be submitted, via to apronske@nscaa.com, within one week of the completion of the course.
