Submit a meaningful photo of your senior, along with your message, to the Saxon Yearbook before March 17th! Senior Edition Senior Information Assembly The senior assembly is Friday, April 4, in the Rose Auditorium at 9:15 am. Graduation deadlines and upcoming events will be discussed as well as nominating teachers to read names at graduation and to speak at the Senior Banquet. Seniors will also vote on the senior awards which will be handed out at the Banquet. Voting packets need to be returned to Mrs. August in the Leadership Office by April 18. Seniors that miss the assembly can pick up voting packets from Mrs. August. Want to Speak at Graduation? Seniors interested in speaking at graduation need to see Mrs. August, in the Leadership Office, to submit a request and a speech outline by April 18. Parents of Seniors Informational Meeting Parent of Seniors are invited to an informational meeting on Thursday, April 3 at 7 pm in South s Library. Information regarding graduation will be shared, as well as important upcoming deadlines and events for seniors. We hope you can make it. Senior Exit Survey All senior students will be sent an with a link to fill out the Senior Exit Survey. This survey asks seniors questions about what they will do after graduation. We use this important information to track how many students continue onto college, the military or work, etc. Lockers - All seniors will be responsible for cleaning out their lockers. If a locker is left unclean there will be a $10 charge to each of the students assigned to the locker. All unclaimed items will be donated to charity.
3 Senior Edition Page 3 Prom Senior Banquet The Senior Banquet event is at Illahe Country Club, 6:30-9:00pm on Wednesday, May 21st. This is a semi-formal event which includes dinner and dessert, a class slide show and senior awards. Cost is $25.00/person. Please note, students cannot attend Senior Banquet if they owe fees. Is your student receiving a scholarship or award? South tracks scholarships and awards by using the Senior Exit Survey. This information is used to honor seniors at the Senior Awards Assembly on June 5, and to publish information in the Graduation Program. All seniors will be sent an with a link to the Senior Exit Survey and asked to submit their information no later than May 23rd for inclusion in the Graduation Program. Students will need to login with their southsaxons to verify their identity. Web link: Prom This year s Prom is Saturday, May 17th at Mission Mill, 7:30-10:00pm. Tickets go on sale May 5th during both lunches and after school. Purchase tickets at the bookkeeper s window. Please note, students cannot attend Prom if they owe fees. Dress is formal. Tickets are $40 per couple or $20 per person and will not be sold at the door. Prior approval is required to bring a guest from another school. Guest forms are available in the Student Center. Yearbooks - Pre-ordered, paid yearbooks can be picked up Monday, June 2nd in the lower commons from 2:20-3:30 pm. If you haven t purchased a yearbook, the date has been extended to May 15th. Cost is $60. See the bookkeeper to purchase. Library and Textbooks Seniors please return all library books by May 23rd, and all textbooks by May 30th. Make sure the textbooks you are returning were checked out to you. Books turned in that were checked out to another student will clear the other student s account instead of your own. Seniors with overdue books or textbooks fees will not be allowed to walk at Graduation. Please contact the bookkeeper if you have any questions. Final Transcripts and Letters of Recommendation Letter of Recommendation and Transcript requests are available online only. 4 Page 4 Senior Edition Seniors vs. Staff Basketball game Come enjoy a competitive night of basketball on Tuesday, May 27, 6:30-8:00 pm, when the Senior class takes on the Staff in a rip-roaring basketball game in the main gym. See Mrs. August for more details. Boys Volleyball Come watch the Senior boys challenge the Junior boys for the Volleyball championship title. The game starts promptly at 4:00 pm in the main gym on Wednesday, May 28th. Powderpuff Football Come watch the Seniors girls battle for the title of Powder Puff Champions against the Junior girls Thursday, May 29th 6:30-8:00 pm, on Bennett Field. Senior Finals Senior finals are June 3 and 4. Seniors are to attend all their classes during both days. June 3: Regular class periods 1,2,3,4 Finals during periods 5,6,7 June 4: Finals during periods 1,2,3,4 Regular class periods 5,6,7 Honors Assembly The Senior Honors Assembly will take place in the gym, Thursday, June 5, at 9:15 am. Graduates need to report to the gym dressed in their graduation gowns (no caps) by 8:45 am. This is an all-school assembly which honors the senior class. Graduates will be seated on the main floor of the Gym. Families are encouraged to attend. Please check into the main office before making your way to the gym. Assembly starts promptly at 9:15 a.m. and usually ends by 10:30 a.m.
5 Senior Edition Page 5 Behavior Expectations Seniors involved in pranks without prior administrative approval may be denied participation in graduation activities. Any senior involved in damage to property, or actions which degrade the reputation of an individual or a school will be criminally charged and will NOT be allowed to walk with their class in the graduation ceremonies. Any student coming to a school activity, the prom, senior banquet, graduation practice and the graduation ceremony under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be criminally charged and subject to District discipline policy. They will also be removed from all further senior activities. Students expelled during the school year will be denied participation in the graduation ceremonies. Seniors whose graduation privileges were revoked because of behavioral issues may petition to the Principal, Mr. Phelps, to request a hearing. Fines/Fees Senior/Graduation Privileges In accordance with District Administrative policy INS-A012, Section 7 (see below), seniors who have outstanding fees, fines, or damaged/lost property may result in the loss of privileges of attending Prom, Senior Banquet and walking at Graduation. Look for fines and fees letters to arrive early April. Please contact the bookkeeper if you have questions or concerns. A payment plan must be in place before a student who owes fees is allowed to participate in the above activities. Bookkeeper hours are 8-11:30 a.m. and 12:00-3:30 pm. 7.0 The District shall pursue the collection of debts to the full extent allowed by Oregon State statute. Nonpayment of fees, fines, and/or restitution for damaged/lost property may result in: 7.1. Loss of privileges related to the student s participation and/or attendance at school events and/or non-academic activities including but not limited to ceremonies and/or activities related to graduation, athletic events, and school sponsored dances or parties (including prom) The District may take legal action, including referral of an outstanding amount to collections or by filing a civil complaint in Circuit Court after giving the notice required in ORS
6 Page 6 Graduation Graduation is Friday, June 6th at 7:00 pm, on Bennett Field, in Caldarazzo Stadium. The football stadium accommodates 4,000 people, so attendance is not limited. Commencement will take place rain or shine. Gates open at 5:00 pm for seating. Seats reserved prior to 5:00 pm will not be honored and items used to reserve seats will be removed. Seniors need to be in the cafeteria dressed in their caps and gowns at 6:15 pm. The tassel on the cap should be on the left side. Students seated in the South section need to report to the Lower Commons and students seated in the North section need to report to the north cafeteria. Senior Edition Diplomas Graduates will be handed their diploma cover on stage and will need to stop by the tables just outside the North Cafeteria following graduation to pick up their diploma. Hearing Impaired & Wheelchair Access If you or a guest will need a sign language interpreter or wheelchair seating for the Senior Honors Assembly or Graduation ceremony, contact Sam Mendez in the Student Center at yrd. 8 Salem-Keizer Public Schools South Salem High School PO Box Salem, OR Grad Party Information The C14SS PARTY will be held on graduation night, June 6th, from 11:00 pm to 4:00 am at Firebird Lanes Bowling on Center Street. The event promises a great evening of friends, fun, and food for all 2014 graduates. The party is not a lock-in, but students will not be readmitted if they leave the event. Senior Parents Parents of each Senior are asked to contribute $50 which includes a ticket to the party for their student. In addition, please submit to the school office a 5x7 BABY photo (color copy- no originals, please) of your senior with their name clearly marked on back. Parent party planners currently are seeking tax-deductible donations of food (watch your !), gift cards and items suitable for raffle prizes! All item donations are appreciated - whether a $10 gift card or a laptop computer. Everything helps! Please return the form below to SSHS office on or before April 11th with the requested $50 donation. ADMIT ONE Tickets for remaining students will be sold during lunch on April 16, 23 & 30 ($15) and May 7 & 14 ($20). Advance purchase only - NO tickets available at door.
