Varndean College is looking to appoint a Learning Coach to work alongside our students in small groups to help boost their Maths GCSE grade. The post is initially for one year beginning in September 2018 and ending in May The post may be of particular interest to someone wishing to gain experience of working in an educational environment prior to applying for professional training. 2 Level 2 / Pre-Advanced Students EXAMS SUMMER TERM 2018 You should have your exam timetables already. Any problems speak to your core studies tutor. Final teaching day for GCSE and level 2 courses Wednesday 23 May (some level 2 students may need to come in to college in order to finish off some assignments after this date talk to your teachers!) GCSE Maths exam on the morning of Thursday 24 May (9.00 am). Year 2 Students including IB You should have your exam timetables already. Any problems speak to your core studies tutor. IB exams run from Monday 30 April Friday 18 May. A level exams the bulk of these are in June but there may be some students sitting AS units in May also Art exams and BTEC exams are happening throughout May. Final teaching day for Year 2 A level and BTEC students is Friday 25 May. Friday 25 May afternoon leavers afternoon barbecue in Quad and other activities organised by NUS. Year 1 Students A level, BTEC and IB Most (but not all) A level and IB subjects are running end of year internal exams during the period Tuesday 15 May Wednesday 23 May. (See detailed table on Page 3 of this Bulletin). Year 1 students follow amended timetable. A level and IB subjects follow exam timetable. BTEC and others non-exam subjects follow amended timetable with 3.5 hr lessons per option block. Exams will happen in one of the blocks (eg 6A) and lessons will cover both blocks (eg 6A and 6B). Volunteer and Event Experience Opportunities Planning is well in progress for the 7th Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend. This is a 3-day running event that brings together the three towns of Mid Sussex.

6 Volunteer and Event Experience Opportunities Planning is well in progress for the 7th Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend. This is a 3-day running event that brings together the three towns of Mid Sussex. In 2018 we have some opportunities for students aged 16 or older to volunteer as marshals and gain event experience in the process. The dates and locations for 2018 are: East Grinstead Saturday 5th May 10 miles East Grinstead Rugby Club Haywards Heath Sunday 6th May 10 miles Victoria Park Burgess Hill Monday 7th May 10K The Burgess Hill Academy The event cannot run without the generosity of people giving up their time to act as volunteers. We are seeking people to marshal checkpoints along the route, to direct runners and spectators and to supervise water stations. These roles are crucial to the success of the event. Volunteers will be required from approximately 8.30am 1.30pm on any of the days listed above, and are welcome to volunteer for an individual day or more than one day. They will receive a briefing from a trained marshal supervisor prior to the start of the event, refreshments during the event and a volunteer t-shirt. We are also happy to provide proof of volunteering where required. The event is organized on behalf of Places for People Leisure, Mid Sussex District Council and the three respective Town Councils. It is now in its 7th year and aims to bring together people from local businesses, schools, colleges and community groups. It is a-not-for-profit event, with any surplus invested back into local sporting communities. Please see further details on:
