1 January 13, 2017 BALDWIN STREET MIDDLE SCHOOL e-banner Greetings! Just a reminder our Renaissance sponsored activity night will run tonight from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The cost is $5.00, which includes (1) piece of pizza. Students should enter at the gym and have their student IDs. The 8th-grade students have been continuing our theme of "Be Bold, Be Brave, Be a Leader" throughout this school year. Leadership teams met in early December during a flex day to perform service projects that will continue throughout the year. Great things are happening - reading with elementary school students, cleaning up areas in the building, a diaper drive for Love Inc., and encouraging fellow students with locker notes. It is awesome to see our students taking on positive leadership roles. Teams will meet again on January 31, As we near the middle of January, I would like to ask that you save the dates for winter parent-teacher conferences. We will once again use school bookings to allow you to schedule meetings on the dates of February 13 and 15, 2017, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm and February 16, 2017, from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm. Scheduling information will be shared in an upcoming Banner.

3 Upcoming Survey For the past three years, we have been working on accomplishing our district s long-range planning goals outlined in S.O.A.R. II (Strategic Objectives to Achieve Results). Teams of teachers, administrators and support staff have been focused on specific goals in the areas of Human Services, Operations, and Teaching and Learning. S.O.A.R. II points of pride include, but are not limited to, the development and phased implementation of an elementary STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) special, saving millions of taxpayer dollars by renovating a former elementary school, renovating all buildings' front office areas to provide an extra level of security, and expanding community education offerings. A complete report of the many accomplishments can be found on our district s website. To continue our great tradition of excellence at Hudsonville Public Schools and to elevate our successes, we are asking for your help in the development of our next strategic plan: S.O.A.R. III. We have completed the first phase of development (Focus Groups) and are very thankful for the wealth of information we received. Our website contains a summary of findings based on this phase. We are now entering the second phase in the research; a Randomized Needs Assessment Survey. If you receive an invitation to participate, please consider taking part in helping us set the direction for the next three years. Later in February, we will open the survey to parents and community members who were not part of the random selection process. We will the link to the survey when it becomes available. Renaissance News Gold Level Members With the month of January upon us, we want to welcome our new Businesses of the Month!
