2 THE DIPLOMA PROGRAMME CURRICULUM

3 Language A- 4 credits CURRICULUM Grade 9: Pre-IB English I Grade 10: Pre-IB English II Grade 11: IB English III Grade 12: IB English IV Language B- 4 credits We offer Spanish, French and German Grade 9: Pre IB World Language I Grade 10: Pre IB World Language II Grade 11: IB World Language IV Grade 12: IB World Language V If you have already taken and passed High School Spanish we will evaluate you individually.

4 Curriculum, Continued Individuals and Societies- 4 credits Grade 9 : US History Honors/AP Grade 10: World History Honors/AP Grade 11: Global Politics I Grade 12: Global Politics II Experimental Sciences 4 credits Grade 9: Pre-IB Biology I or Physics I Grade 10: Pre-IB Chemistry I Grade 11: IB Biology I, AP Chemistry or AP Physics Grade 12: IB Biology SL or HL,IB Chemistry SL or HL or Physics SL or HL If you have already taken and passed High School Biology in Middle School, you can select Chemistry or Physics ( Physics only if you have taken and passed Algebra 1)

5 CURRICULUM CONTINUED Mathematics- 5 credits Students will follow this progression: -Algebra 1 -Geometry -Algebra 2-2 years of IB Math Studies or IB Math SL -If you have taken and passed any of the math courses we will start you in the most appropriate placement. From that point all additional math courses will be taken on campus with HCHS/HCIB staff. Sixth Subject: This group includes Visual Arts, Music, Theatre, Psychology, Philosophy and Contemporary History Philosophy and Contemporary History are only offered your Junior and Senior year.

6 CURRICULUM CONTINUED The Core: CAS: Creativity, Activity, Service Theory of Knowledge: 1 credit Extended Essay of 4,000 words on a personal research project. - completed during the 11 th and 12 th Grades

7 Community Service Why do I need community service? Community service is an integral part of the IB program. 9th grade students are expected to have a minimum of 25 community service hours and each year thereafter, which benefit the community, county, state, country or world each year. It is also beneficial to become a member of the CAS club to become familiar with CAS projects which will be a requirement in 11 th and 12 th grade. (*creativity, activity and service).

9 Florida Bright Futures --- What is Bright Futures? The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program is funded by the state of Florida which provides scholarships based on high school academic achievement. The program has different award levels, each with its own eligibility criteria and award amounts. Awards are per credit hour. Florida Academic Scholarship Florida Medallion Scholarship Florida Gold Seal Scholarship

10 Florida Academic Scholars SAT 1290 and ACT 29 Minimum Weighted GPA 3.5 Community Service 100 hours The Florida Academic Scholars will receive an award amount equal to 100% of tuition and applicable fees. This includes Summer funding.. Florida Academic Scholars will receive an additional amount of $300 per semester (fall and spring only) for collegerelated expenses. The Florida Academic Scholars Award is $ per credit hour. IB students automatically qualify for this award if they receive their IB Diploma along with 100 hours of Community Service!!!!

11 Florida Medallion Scholars SAT 1170 on Math and Critical Reading or ACT 26 Composite Minimum Weighted GPA 3.0 Community Service 75 hours Florida Medallion Scholars will receive 75% of tuition and applicable fees in Fall and Spring. Florida Medallion Scholar recipients will be eligible to receive summer awards starting Summer Florida Medallion Scholar awards will not receive the $300 educational expense stipend. The Florida Medallion Scholars Award is $ per credit hour.

12 Gold Seal Vocational Scholars PERT scores on Reading 104, Writing 99 and Math 113 or SAT Critical Reading 440 and Math 440 or ACT English 17, Reading 18 and Math 19 Minimum Unweighted GPA 3.0 overall; 3.5 career courses Community Service 30 hours 16 credits see counselor about courses

13 Testing FSA Reading need a passing scores or earn a passing concordant score on the ACT or SAT EOC Alg 1 need to pass EOC or pass the Math PERT 97 or higher Geometry counts 30% of grade Biology counts for 30% of grade US History need to take EOC

17 IB & HCHS DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS: Requirements: Complete and pass courses from the six content groups Complete the CAS requirement quality reflections on experiences Complete and pass the Theory of Knowledge course Complete and pass the Extended Essay Take and meet the IB standards on the six exams Students who meet all the requirements will receive a HCHS Diploma and a IB Diploma. Students who meet all requirements with the exception of the exam scores will earn a HCHS Diploma and Course Certificates for exams they passed.

18 Attitudes and Skills of a Successful IB Student: An eagerness to work hard and learn at a fast pace. It is highly suggested you use a planner/calendar to help manage your time. Time Management will be a deciding factor of your success in the IB Program.
