11 ENDORSEMENT Decision/Requirement Discuss interests, careers, likes/dislikes review the examples of Programs of Study within the 5 Endorsement areas to help your child with their decision. STUDENT MUST INDICATE (IN WRITING) AN ENDORSEMENT HE/SHE INTENDS TO EARN UPON ENTERING 9 TH GRADE on the Personal Graduation Plan (PGP). STUDENT MAY CHANGE ENDORSEMENT UPON WRITTEN REQUEST AND PROVIDED THE TIME RESTRAINTS PERMIT THE CHANGE.

13 PERSONAL GRADUATION PLAN (PGP) PGP sample is given on website. HB 5 requires ALL 9 th graders to have PGP which MUST be signed by Student and Parent and returned to HS Counselor. PGPs will be kept for all students in Counseling center (make copy/take a picture for your files) SAMPLES of 4 year plans/schedule choices are available Endorsement areas are on website to help you. Students MUST indicate a Program of Study and check off the corresponding Endorsement on their PGP.

14 Additional Graduation Plan decisions: DISTINGUISHED LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT The Distinguished Level of Achievement (DLA) replaces the current Distinguished Achievement Plan as the highest graduation plan in the state of Texas for students entering high school in In order to be considered for the Top 10% Automatic Admission in Texas Public Universities, graduates MUST earn a Distinguished Level of Achievement (DLA) diploma which requires passing Algebra 2. CHANGE: 2 years of a Language other than English (LOTE) vs 3 in current 10 th 12 th grades.

18 HOW do we know what our kids will PICK? 1. Start by discussing a possible Program of Study. 2. Go to that Endorsement area. 3. Pick up a course sample sheet for that specific Program of Study (pick 1) 3. Write the Endorsement on the top of the sample PGP 4. Review elective course selections (hot pink)

20 To take or not to take: Advanced Level Classes 9th graders - Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP) options are available for many CORE classes The majority of Advanced Placement (AP)/Dual credit classes begin Jr year. Pre-AP classes earn a 5 pt bump on GPA AP/Dual credit classes earn a 10 pt bump on GPA IF it sounds too good THESE classes are challenging and expectations are high! I ll try and see what it is like is NOT an easy option in high school scheduling. YOU know your child s maturity level, capabilities, study habits and extra-curricular involvements (and your work schedule, siblings, etc ) IF you have doubts, talk to your child s current teachers (THEY MUST SIGN OFF)!
