5 Science 4 Units of Science Environmental Science Biology Physical Science or Physics Chemistry, Earth Science, or an AP course 4 th Science, including any AP course *Career tech science can be used to meet both the science &elective requirements

6 Social Studies 3 Units of Social Studies World History US History ½ Unit of Citizenship ½ Unit of Economics

7 Graduation Rule: ½ unit of Health ½ unit of Personal Fitness Electives 7 units required 3 units from CTAE pathway and/or Foreign Language and/or Fine Arts 4 additional units

8 Keep in mind... Students Planning to enter or transfer into a University of Georgia Institution must take 2 units of the same Foreign Language

9 Georgia High School Writing Test Writing taken in September of Junior year Must Pass in order to graduate! EOCT s Count 20% of your grade!!!!!

10 Promotion Policy: To enter the 10 th Grade: 5 credits To enter the 11 th Grade 11 credits To enter the 12 th Grade 17 credits To Graduate: 23 credits

11 End of Course Tests (EOCT) In 9 th Grade we only have 3 EOCT s on our campus: Literature Math I Biology Extremely important since it is 20% of your grade!

12 GPA and Grades Grades are earned each 9 weeks Credits are awarded at the end of each semester- Each class is worth.5 credit each semester Two 9 weeks average = 80% of final grade Final Exam/End of Course Test = 20% of final grade Scale = A = = B = = C = = F = 0.0 All Students must earn 23 credits for graduation Credit for failed courses Must Be Made Up in order to graduate *** Your Grades are your business! Respect the privacy of your classmates!!!!!!

13 HOPE Scholarship All attempted academics courses in grades 9-12 are counted in the HOPE Scholarship Literature, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Language 8 th grade classes will not be used in HOPE calculation Honors classes will not be weighted AP classes will be weighted Visit for more information

14 HOPE Program: Regular HOPE students must have a 3.0 GPA upon graduating high school Only pays a percentage of your tuition no books, or fees! Zell Miller Scholarship students must have a 3.7 GPA upon graduating high school and have a combined 1200 on the SAT or ACT of 26. Students must maintain a 3.3 GPA in college. This scholarship covers 100% of your tuition!

15 Rigor Requirements: Students who graduate on or after May 1, 2017 must pass four courses from the list below: Advanced Math Advanced Science Advanced Placement in core subjects International Baccalaureate in core subjects Core subjects taken at a University System of Georgia Institution Advanced Foreign Language

16 HOPE Grant Program: Available for students seeking a certificate or diploma at a branch of the Technical College System of Georgia or a unit of the University System of Georgia. GPA of 3.0 Will pay a percentage of the tuition (please see the chart located on Gacollege411.org)

17 Attendance!!!!!!!!!! Please turn in notes to the front office when you are absent! YOU HAVE 3 DAYS AFTER RETURNING TO SCHOOL!! Under the Teenage and Adult Driver Responsibility Act, students ages who accumulate 10 unexcused absences will have their name turned into the DMV and their learner s permit or driver s license will be suspended. If you have more than 15 absences ( for any reason) in one semester no credit can be earned!

18 9 th Grade Checklist Go to GAcollege411.org. Track your courses, grades, honors, and extracurricular activities. Complete your 9 th grade pathway. Start Career Planning explore careers! Start looking for scholarships and financial aid planning. Remember 9 th grade counts!

26 Assignment Write a letter either to an 8 th grade student or an 8 th grade teacher and tell them what they need to know about the 9 th grade campus. Tell them how to prepare for their freshman year you can include your likes and dislikes.
