3 Coronado High School The CHS UIL Academic team came in third place overall and 17 students advanced to the regional competition. 4 Spelling and Vocabulary second-place team 3-Ashtyn Alvarez Of all of these competitors, first- through third-place individuals advanced to the regional meet. First-place teams advance - so the Accounting team advanced to the regional meet. Also, the top second-place team in the region advances as a wild card team, so our Spelling and Vocabulary team also advanced. Congratulations to Adan Rubio, Coronado High School Senior, who is one of 12 state finalists in the Latino History Essay Competition. Founded in 2011 by the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement at UT-Austin, the Latino History Essay Competition has found a new home with UIL Academics beginning with the school year. The Latino History Essay Competition is open to all students in grades 9-12 attending UIL member high schools. This year's essays focus on a prominent or relatively unknown Latino individual, organization or movement in Texas history and how they have significantly influenced today's Latino communities? As a state finalist, Mr. Rubio will be eligible to apply for Texas Interscholastic League Foundation scholarships (uiltexas.org/tilf). Eligible applicants have access to dozens of scholarship opportunities; this school year alone, the TILF will disburse more than $1 million in scholarships to almost 600 students. In the past 3 years, UIL seniors at Coronado High School have received over $40,000 in TILF scholarships. In addition to scholarship eligibility, finalists will compete for state awards and will be invited to attend the Academic State Meet in Austin on April 21.
