10 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS FOUNDATION PROGRAM A minimum of 22 credits ½ PACE 4 years of English 3 years of Math 3 years of Science 3 years of Social Studies 2 years of Foreign Language 1 PE ½ Health 1 Fine Arts 4 elective credits FOUNDATION PLUS ENDORSEMENT PROGRAM A minimum of 26 credits Includes Foundation Plan plus: 4 th year of Math 4 th year of Science 2 additional electives DISTINGUISHED LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT Must complete the Foundation Plus Endorsement Program including Algebra II

Honor Graduates Summa Cum Laude Magna Cum Laude Cum Laude Honor rankings are determined after the 3 rd nine weeks. Grade point averages are never rounded up. For example, a GPA does not qualify for Cum Laude.
18 PASS/FAIL OPTION Who s eligible? Juniors or seniors who will have earned more than the required 26 credits. Who benefits? Students who: Earn mostly A s in all courses of study (6.0 +) Have more K-level academic courses to be transcripted than L level courses Restrictions? Students may Pass/Fail up to 2.0 credits 1.0 junior year and 1.0 senior year
19 MORE PASS/FAIL DETAILS Number grade on report card, P/F on transcript Is not utilized in GPA calculation Application must be completed within the first 3 weeks of each semester. Only approved courses can be pass/fail. See your counselor or elective course teacher.
20 DUAL-CREDIT VS. ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) Dual-Credit Advanced Placement - AP Become enrolled with Lone Star Cy Fair College and HS campus course Pay fees for a typical one-semester course, most cost approximately $66 Grade in course determines credit; must earn a C to receive college credit. Credit at a community college transfers to the majority of Universities in the US Enroll in high school AP course only Pay for AP exam (approximately $94) Score on one test determines credit University determines whether test score is acceptable and type/amount of credit. Accepted nationally at universities and colleges.
21 JUNIOR YEAR TIMELINE FALL AND SPRING SEMESTER WINTER: Stay involved, organize college lists, prepare for standardize exams SPRING: Register and take standardized test (ACT given on campus 2/28 Dual Credit Meeting 2/25 Register for AP exams by 3/1 AP Exams in May US History EOC 5/ SUMMER: Visit colleges during the summer Application websites open as early as July 1 st Search for Scholarships College Visit Days completed by 5/10.
22 TEXAS SUCCESS INITIATIVE requires students planning to attend a Texas public college/university meet college entrance exam standards in READING, MATH, and WRITING to enter into college level course work. Students failing to meet minimum passing standards MUST be placed in developmental programs/classes. ACT SAT TSI Assessment Composite score of 23+ * a minimum 19 on both English and Math OLD: Combined Critical Reading and Math score of 1070; a minimum of 500 on both sections tests NEW: EBRW 480 and Math Math: ; Reading: ; Writing: 340+ on multiple choice & 4+ on essay or <340 & 4+on ABE & 5+ on essay

27 4 MAIN STEPS FOR COLLEGE APPLICATIONS Fill out each application carefully and thoroughly, including required essays (most are done online) Request an official transcript from the registrar s office Can be mailed or sent electronically to the college before or after the application is complete Have SAT/ACT test scores sent to the college from the testing agency (before or after application is complete) Apply to all schools by winter break if possible Must meet prospective school s deadline Photocopy all materials
